The gift of true friendship.

with 14 comments

Nothing but heaven itself is better than a friend who is really a friend. ~Plautus

trakbjan08_2.jpg

You know you have a true friend when, sitting in a nice restaurant, you start to feel a bit odd and exclaim that you might be about to have a seizure, she says, “That’s okay honey, just tell me what to do.”

And so Tracy is to me.

Tracy and I met at Ole Miss back in the day. (I don’t know the year; she remembers things like that, not me.) We didn’t bond right away but bound tight when we did. Our days at Ole Miss were a LOT of fun and filled with “what happened at Ole Miss stays in Ole Miss” stories. We remember them fondly.

Few of the friendships either of us had back then have survived past college but we have made it, through thick and thin and we have had our share of thick and thin! I was honored to be at her wedding, the births of both of her children (well, in the next room) and many birthday parties and other occasions. I’ve not reached those milestones yet (I’m a late-bloomer) but when I do, she will be right beside me, no doubt. She has helped with all of my moves and is a phone call away whenever I need her. She has never given up on me which is a feat in itself.

The best thing about Tracy is that, unlike SO many other people, she doesn’t want to or try to change me. She loves me and is patient with me just the way I am. If I want to change, she supports me with all of her heart but if I don’t want to change? That is fine by her too.

Everyone needs another person in whom they can be totally and completely comfortable, who they can trust to tell anything and know that it will never ever be told again and who will love them despite whatever it is. I may not ever find that in a romantic relationship, that one soulmate of a person, but I have it in Tracy. And, come what may in my life, that is good enough for me.

Love you, Tra.

Swoon-worthy

with 14 comments

From time-to-time, I come across and do business with some positively swoon-worthy stores on Etsy.

Among those…

EarthArt – A wonderfully creative and kind seller who has such a varied offering of original artworks. She is cooperative and loves to work with people (like me!) with a true interest in art.

This was my Valentine to me:

Futurowoman – Amazing with her Polaroid! Futurowoman’s Blythe photos are so wonderful and even moreso in person! I got the Amelie one and now hope to someday have her whole Blythe collection.

And for any of you wishing to make a donation to a worthy cause, feel free to contact me. My next Etsy purchase will be a swoon-worthy pair of vintage leather “pomegranate” colored French boots by Charles Jourdan. They are currently on hold for me. Aren’t they grand?

All together now…

Pink.

attemptestock_pink_dress_2_by_attemptestock.jpg
I dreamt of a pink dress last night.
It wasn’t a pale pink dress. No. It was a vibrant, strong, bright, beautiful pink dress. I know that it was pink because everything around it was black and white and gray.
The dress wasn’t on anyone. It wasn’t worn on a person walking down a street, on a beach, sitting in a chair, in an opera or in a cafe. It was being held and passed between two people, me being one of them. The other person, I’m not sure.
I don’t really think that the dress was a bridal dress but I can’t be sure. I don’t think it was fluffy like tulle but I don’t think it was limp either. I don’t think it was old but not particularly new either. I didn’t get the sense that it had been previously owned or passed down generations either, but I just don’t know.
The problem is that I don’t know.
I woke up crying in the middle of the night because this dream was so poignant, so precious and because I wanted to hang on to it so badly yet, when I woke, all I remembered about it was the pink dress.
It has haunted me all day, that certain shade of pink, stark against the dull of the black and white background. I want to remember more, who was in the house and why it was being passed back and forth. Particularly who. I hope – long – to dream the same dream again tonight so that I can remember, so that I can have the chance to remember again.
Perhaps I will again dream of pink tonight.

The Artist’s Way – An Invitation

with 4 comments

I know that MANY of you are wonderfully creative people. I’m sure that MANY of you are also familiar with The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. I’m also sure that MANY of you – those who have read it or gone through or tried the program – know how good and beneficial it can be and is.

How many of you though – like me – have started it and flaked out?

Well, here is a chance for you to start again. I’ve just started a blog for anyone wanting to read the book, do the exercises and finally get through the 12-week program and unblock your creativity. I would LOVE for you all to join in if you’d like. We have people from Etsy, different creative blogs, MySpace, friends, and recommended creatives who might be able to contribute valuably.

So, if you are interested or inclined, check it out!

The Artist’s Way Blog

Hope to see you there!

{{{ Of course, the new blog will in no way take the place of this blog. Zazazu will still be around in full force. :) }}}

Postcard Swap

with 2 comments

I had talked about hosting a postcard swap here and I might do that at some point this Spring so be on the lookout for that. In the meantime, I found a neat Postcard Swap that is going on right now – sign up quick – that you can participate in. I know that a few of you expressed interest in one so this might be a good opportunity for you. Trust me… they are FUN! I might even do this one myself.

If you have any trouble figuring out how to sign up, just email your mailing address and “Postcard Swap 2008: The Love Edition” in the subject line to {{{chookooloonksATgmailDOTcom}}}.

Signed, sealed, delivered

with 14 comments

As I mentioned, I recently participated in a fun handmade postcard swap. I had to make eight postcards with a holiday theme and send them out to the people who had been assigned to me. I got eight in return.

This was a fun swap. Not only did I get to do eight tiny pieces of art but I got to give them flight to fun places like France, Australia, The Netherlands, Switzerland and Kansas. I had a lot of fun with this one.

These were my creations:

(The lighting on some of them is horrible… sorry.)

These were made with the typical materials that I use for collage: pinking shears, the sewing machine, lots of thread, scrapbooking letter stickers, double-stick tape, rubber stamps, ink, sharpie, gift tags, etc. And trust me… MANY magazines were harmed in the making of these cards!

If any of you are interested in some sort of similar postcard swap here, just let me know. I might be willing to pull something together. This was by far one of the most fun swaps I’ve done. I loved the things I made and had fun making them and I got some super-fab and beautiful things in return.

Don’t we all just {::: love :::} fun mail?
