No substitute…

“There is no substitute for books in the life of a child.” ~ May Ellen Chase

My friend Denise over at Mormar has an amazing daughter. Bear in mind that I’ve met neither Denise nor her daughter in person but if you read this post, you will see why I say that she is amazing.

Denise’s daughter is putting on a book drive for for a small school in Florida. The school to be sponsored is in the second poorest county in Florida; 90% of the students in the school qualify for the free lunch program. Needless to say, they are all in dire need of books to read, to be read to them, to learn from, to escape to. What a wonderful thing that there are beautiful hearts like Denise’s daughter who want to help them out.

I’m drawn to any sort of a call for books, any drive to get books to those who might not otherwise have them but especially to one that is put together by a friend’s daughter. So, I’m extending the invitation to you all as well. Won’t you join me? I’m certainly not asking any of you to spend a lot of money – not any money really! But, if you have any books lying around that some of your kids have outgrown or won’t miss, maybe this would be a good place for them to go? If you are interested, just let me know and I will get Denise‘s address to you.

Of course, there will be many others participating as well but if you have a few to send along, that would be great. Thanks so much!

And, once again, kudos to Denise‘s daughter for doing such a bold and selfless thing and kudos to Denise for bringing such a wonderful heart into this world. We need more people like you two!
