May.19.2007 – Do more…

Do more than exist: live.
Do more than touch: feel.
Do more than look: observe.
Do more than hear: listen.
Do more than listen: understand.
Do more than think: reflect.
Do more than just talk: say something.

  1. This reminds me of a poem by Mattie Stepanek, a little boy who had muscular dystrophy and died a few years ago..He wanted to be remembered as a poet and a peacemaker…..I remember that years ago I saw him on Oprah…

my mother mentioned him in a “random” conversation a couple weeks ago…we were talking in the car about dreams, children, wisdom…the first of this kind of conversation….anyway, this was right before I had to go in for my dr. appointment…my mom stayed in the car with my daughter who was asleep in the car seat, and I went in to the office. As I enter the office, out of the corner of my eye and coincidentally, I saw the book of Mattie Stepanek’s poems (Heartstrings) in a basket on the floor with other books and magazines for the patients (I recognized it, because a long time ago, before I saw him on Oprah, someone had given me the book which is in a box somewhere and which I haven’t seen for years)…
After my appointment, I picked it up and read one poem(then had to run back to the car where my mom and daughter were waiting)…it was “Making Sense of the Senses “….I see that it can be read at

  2. Beautiful sentiment, I’ll have to borrow it for my “something to ponder” for awhile. You have a lovely blog and I look forward to digging into it.

  3. Karen Beth,

Thanks so much for dropping by my blog and leaving such a lovely comment. Your blog is wonderful–glad to have found you! 😀

  4. WOW. Two deep posts, right in a row… this one I may have to print out, decorate, and hang up somewhere in a frame.

I love the first line: “Do more than exist: live” I want that to be the motto for my life! (Of course, I say that about a lot of quotes… lol)
