Happy Earth Day, Fellow Humans!

Happy Earth Day, Fellow Humans!

happyearth.jpg

I meant to get this posted up earlier but – alas – I did not… I was out and about enjoying Earth Day! I hope that each of you have had a lovely and wonderful Earth Day holiday and that you have been able to honor Mother Nature in your own way.

I’ve already had my tangent on Global Warming so, even though this might be an appropriate occasion on which to elaborate further, I will not. You can Google “Earth Day” and get all manner of hits for that sort of thing. No, instead I will tell you a bit of what I did today on Earth Day and then give you a pictorial of what Earth Day means in my neck of the woods.

My good friend Sarah over at Looking For Me… asked in a post the other day if anyone ever practiced yoga outside. In all of my yoga practicing, I haven’t. I’ve always thought about it and every one of the pictures of yogis in beautiful poses that I admire most are taken in practices outside. So, I’m not sure why I’ve never practiced outside. Sometime in the middle of the night last night, I awoke and remembered that today would be Earth Day and, in that same moment, decided to celebrate with a nice yoga practice – you guessed it – outside. Which is just what I did.

It was delightful…

My Mother took this photo and didn’t zoom in but I like it anyway. I’m in child’s pose and it looks like I’m bowing to the world around me which, for Earth Day, would be appropriate, I think.

Yoga outside was so much more refreshing than yoga done inside; the difference is astounding. The difference in breath is amazing, the content and quality of breath is so much better. And the warm breeze that was dancing around me the entire time was so spiritual, so moving, it added so much to my practice. The sun on my face, the sound of the windchimes chiming, the birds singing, the scent of the freshly cut grass… Mmmmmm… nothing else like it, I’m convinced. Savasana was especially remarkable, even moreso than normal and it is normally wonderful! So, Sarah, I’ve investigated and I highly recommend it.

The outdoor yoga practice was definitely the highlight of my day. It has been fairly normal since then. Yesterday, however, I did get outside to take some photos. This, therefore, is what represents Earth Day in my neck of the woods.

Delali had a great Earth Day too. She got to go outside while I was practicing yoga and she LOVED that. She sniffed around all over the place and finally found a nice, bright spot and sunned herself.

After her long jaunt outside, she was very tired and very dirty so she took a long bath followed by an even longer nap. She is a lady of leisure, to be sure.

Special Earth Day wishes to J and Friend who are soaking up rays in an extraordinary paradise, down in sunny Florida. Thanks for taking time from your leisure to send these amazing photos.

Beautiful… What better note to end on? Happy Earth Day, Blog Friends.

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more.

  1. Happy Earth Day!!!

I just suddenly thought it has been aaaaaaaages since I’ve popped on and said hi here … I’ve just been looking at all the photos and I love them … especially the ones of Delali and Cuddles .. so cute!

  2. I would love to join you in a child’s pose someday, with the sun warming our backs and the ground giving us energy through our foreheads… ah…
and shame on me- I have never practiced outdoors, even though our FL weather cooperates most of the time.
Thank you for the beautiful inspiration, my friend…

  3. Miaow to you too, Tory & Tabby!

Retro – Thanks! You are welcome to my neck of the woods anytime. đŸ™‚

Jody – It is very calm here at my home and very “green”. The house is at the foot of a hill and in the midst of many trees and canopied very well. There are trees all around and they are all full and very green right now.

Stiletto – You haven’t missed much! Hope you had a good weekend! xo…

Regina – I would love to practice with you as well… and in Florida… better yet!!

  4. I love the shot of you in the outdoors, I can only imagine how great that feels. Dont think I mentioned that my hubby is in Brazil right now working on a documentary on the Amazon. It’s so interesting, and quite sad to see how quickly it is burning away. He’s hoping to raise some awareness and get it more protected!

    Have a beautiful day!

  5. I had a great earth day. We worked in the garden all day. Then we went to my sisters and we reunited a baby calf and her mother. The mother had had twins and didn’t take care of the little girl the first day. But, we got the baby to cry and then the mom remembered her and came running. It really was so sweet. We got to feed the baby with a bottle and that was really cute.

We, used to do our yoga class outside when it was nice. That really was a great experience. Thanks for the great post!!

  6. Mindy – I didn’t know that your hubby was in the Amazon doing a documentary right now. That is so fascinating and I’d love to hear more about that. I do hope that he can raise more awareness about it too.

Denise – What a wonderful way to celebrate Earth Day! I imagine that re-uniting the calf and its Mother was very sweet. I would have loved to seen that. Animals are amazing!

  7. I did yoga on the beach a couple times and you’re right, it’s an unbelievable experience outside.
I really like your blog and the Anais Nin quote!
And your kitty looks like my little “yin-yang”.
    Happy Earth Day!

  8. Thank you for the report! I shall definitely have to try it! I can think of no other way to make a connection to the air then to let it be moving around and inside you, and no better way to connect to the earth then to ground to it like roots.

I’ll post pictures of my outside yoga experience if I can get J to stand around and be my photographer!

    Thanks so much *big hugs!!*

  9. Wow! This was a great post…I celebrated by going to Whole Foods and really taking the time to look and see what they have…then we ate outside and I fed the pidgeons…

  10. Foxhollow – I’ve never actually been to a Whole Foods but I love Wild Oats and the like. I love to see all the wonderful things they have at places like that. I want to buy so many things there but I rarely do. It is fun to just look. Great way to spend Earth Day!
